I have a secret and it is now time to come clean.

I have something to confess, something which I am a little embarrised about.  I have tried to keep this to myself, yet I feel I need to tell you all.

I am a gamer.

I play video games, in fact I am playing one in between writing these sentences.

I feel so much better for getting that off my chest.

Of course, I treating this as a bit of a joke.  Yes, I do play video games… It is one of my many hobbies.  It is one of the ways I relax, spend time with friends who live interstate, and I gain a huge amount of enjoyment out of it.  One of the keys to successful prepping is to not become obsessed with it.  You need to prepare in your life, yet don’t do it to the exlusion of other hobbies and interests.

One thing I have been recently doing is going through my games that have an aspect of “survival” within its core game mechanic.  I have looked at them and tried to analyise whether there is any lessons to learn from them within the genre of Prepping and Survival.  With that in mind I thought I would share my views on my whether there is anything to learn from video games.

My first video is looking at a game called The Long Dark.  It is a very good game which is focussed directly on survival in the Canadian winter wilderness.

It’s one of my first videos on gaming on Youtube… I know it isn’t great.  I think I will keep at it for a bit and see where it goes.  Hopefully I can find my voice and find the value within Survival themed video games in order to bring that to the fore.

If you enjoyed the first video above, perhaps you would like to check out a longer one – going into my detail on the game.

Do any of you find enjoyment and relaxation in gaming?  Perhaps you have other hobbies which, while not directly related to Prepping, could be included if you widen the definition?  Let me know in the comments below or send me an email.
