“If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.” – Thomas Paine

I thought I might post a few links to some very interesting news articles I have come across.  Through conversations I have had with Kitty and people I work with I realised that some of this information could be overlooked and I feel that it is of importance.

Syria

The situation in Syria is heating up with the US announcing their intention to provide small arms and ammunition to the Rebels due to, according to the reports I have read, 100 Rebels being killed by the Syrian Government use of Sarin Gas.  If that report is true I find it sad that since the uprising began in March 2011, over 70,000 people have died… yet it is only because of the reported use of Sarin that the US, and the rest of the world, makes a stand.

Regardless of this I think it is important to note that one of the intended recipients of the arms are members of the Jabhat al-Nusra.  The Al-Nusra are, according to the Washington Post,  “an offshoot of al-Qaeda in Iraq that the Obama administration lists as a terrorist group.”  The same article goes on to list a few other potential recipients of the arms.

  • Syrian Liberation Front: A separate alliance that wants Islamist rule in Syria but is regarded as moderate and pragmatic.
  • Syrian Islamist Front: Advocates the creation of an Islamic state
  • Ahrar al-Sham: Embraces jihadist ideology and supports the imposition of austere, Taliban-like Islamic rule.

USA Today has an interesting article on the make up of the Al-Nusra group which I would recommend to anyone interested.

NSA

USA today had a very interesting conversation with three past Whistle-blowers and their interpretation of Snowden and the NSA scandal.  I don’t know what to make of the whole situation, I just know that I feel that the actions of the NSA are wrong and that they are not inline with the American Ideal.  I did find some inspiration in a Zero Hedge article called Who are the real traitors, which I would recommend to anyone who feels as I do on this issue.  I used to believe that America was a place of great potential and a beacon to anyone who sought a fair go.  Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog, shows that I have been fooling myself when he compiled this shocking list.

Please don’t think I am coming down on the US or speaking badly about the country.  I am not and I feel that America is still a great place.  I only hope that people, especially the American Citizens, can see that there is work to be done to return the shine to a great nation.
